Criminal Court orders precautionary measures for suspects in the Oncology Clinic case

Skopje, 31 January 2024 (MIA) - The pretrial judge at the Skopje Criminal Court ordered precautionary measures for the former medical director of the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology, Nino Vasev, and for the organizational director, Nehat Nuhi, who are suspected of criminal offenses ‘abuse of official position and authority’ and ‘fraud in the service’ in regard to the Oncology Clinic case.

During the investigation, Vasev is barred from leaving his place of residence or stay, has an obligation to report to court authorities, his travel document has been confiscated, and he is prohibited from undertaking specific work activities associated with the criminal offense.

While the precautionary measures remain the same for Nuhi, there is an exclusion regarding the prohibition on undertaking specific work activities associated with the criminal offense.

Skopje-based Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded the pre-investigation, and launched Wednesday an investigation into the case of misuse of cancer therapies and medications at the Oncology Clinic.

One of the suspects is the former medical director of the Oncology Clinic, and another is the organizational director. The other three suspects are oncology doctors.

Former medical director of the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology, Nino Vasev, is suspected of seven criminal offenses, including 'abuse of official position and authority' and 'fraud in the service,’ while Nehat Nuhi, is suspected of 'fraud in the service.'

In the case, three oncology doctors are under suspicion for assisting in 'fraud in the service.'

The penalty for the criminal offense of 'abuse of official position and authority' according to the amendments to the Criminal Code is up to five years, while for 'fraud in office,' the minimum is three years, and the maximum is 20 years.
