Average GDP up 3.5 percent six quarters running: PM

Skopje, 17 April 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday the rise of industry turnover is solid and tops the region, notes there are challenges in the mining industry and adds the Government will do everything to keep the mines open.

"Considering the situation in Europe and across the globe, I think the rise of industry turnover is solid and we are on top of the region in this aspect. In comparison, the average GDP growth for six quarters running is 3.5 percent, while the EU growth is under one percent in the same period. Therefore, our growth is more than three times higher than the one of the EU," PM Mickoski told reporters.

According to him, this is an inspiration for the authorities and proof that the situation is properly managed.

"I am not saying it is excellent, we can always do better, but things are going well, considering the global developments," noted Mickoski.

The PM added that industrial production is facing two challenges: low activity of mines and stabilization of electricity production.

"There are elements in society that would like to see all mines closed, even those that meet environmental standards, leading the country into bankruptcy just for them to get their grants. But we will not back down. If we want to have a country, this is where the future lies. Regarding the electricity production, the situation is already stabilizing," said Mickoski.
