Anniversary of Vejce ambush observed

Tetovo, 28 April 2023 (MIA) - Veterans, organizations and associations, police, army and political parties observed Friday the 22nd anniversary from the ambush near the village of Vejce that killed eight members of the country's security forces.

"Even after 22 years, there is no sign whatsoever to commemorate the victims who were killed while defending their homeland. We will wait patiently and hope that those who committed this crime face justice," said Marin Najdov of the Veterans Union.

According to him, defenders have been neglected and ignored by their own country over the past two decades, "while those who attacked it got the maximum - amnesty".

"We will never agree with the same status given to the defenders and those two attacked the country. This is impossible. The defenders feel this country as their own, I am not certain about the others," added Najdov.

On 28 April 2001, members of the "Wolves" army special unit and police officers - Robert Petkovski, Igor Kosteski, Mile Janevski, Boban Trajkovski, Marjan Bozhinovski, Ilche Stojanovski, Boshko Najdovski and Kire Kostadinovski - were killed when their vehicles were ambushed by members of the so-called National Liberation Army (NLA).
