Andonovski: AI neither a threat nor magic solution, to be seen as a tool requiring knowledge, values, vision, cooperation

Skopje, 2 April 2026 (MIA) - We shouldn’t see artificial intelligence as a threat that will paralyze us, nor as a magic solution that will overcome all challenges by itself. We should see it as a tool that requires knowledge, values, vision, and cooperation, Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski said on Thursday at the opening of the “Future of Work in the AI Era” forum hosted by the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research (ISPPI) at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM).

According to Andonovski, AI modules should exist at schools and non-technical faculties, since, he said, young people are left to fill the vacuum of lacking skills by themselves.

“Will we allow this to develop without a clear direction, without an ethical framework and without care for humans which are at the heart of the changes? Our answer should be very clear – artificial intelligence should serve humanity, not the other way around. And that is why when we speak of the future of work we shouldn’t speak only about automatization, but also about skills, about education, about retraining, about equal opportunities and our institutional readiness. Because jobs are already changing, some tasks are becoming faster, simpler, more automated. But that is also precisely why human capacities, which cannot be replaced easily, will also become even more important, like ethical thinking, assessment, creativity, communication, empathy, and the ability to make decisions,” Andonovski said.

The Minister also noted that the Ministry of Digital Transformation and UKIM have applied for a significant AI project dubbed “Vezilka” that is expected the establish an AI hub in Skopje, adding that a working group from the academic community has been established to draft the first national strategy on the use of artificial intelligence.
