VMRO-DPMNE at Kavadarci congress expected to reelect Mickoski president

Skopje, 6 December 2025 (MIA) — Running unopposed, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski is expected to be reelected party president at VMRO-DPMNE's 18th congress held in Kavadarci later Saturday.

The congress, held under the motto "Vision that Builds a State: For the Next Generation 2030," is expected to be attended by 2,600 people, of whom 850-860 delegates and 1,700-1,800 guests. The party is also expected to adopt its Macedonia 2030 Strategy.

"The document contains the vision of how we, the VMRO-DPMNE — the party in power right now and hopefully through 2030, the period covered by this document — see Macedonia and what pillars we will base our policies on, both as a political party and as the largest political party in the government," Mickoski told reporters earlier this week.

The VMRO-DPMNE president will present his platform and vision for the party's future. Representatives of several sister parties will address the congress, as well.

Besides reelecting its leader, the party is also expected to review a report on its financial operations. Mickoski stressed that the party, for the first time, was out of debt.

He said that "the situation was not rosy" in 2018 but now VMRO-DPMNE was not financially beholden like it had been in the past.

Previously, talking about his role as VMRO-DPMNE's leader, Mickoski said if he were to be reelected at the upcoming congress, it would be his third and final term as party president.

"I have two sons, VMRO-DPMNE is literally like a third child to me. Yes, this is my last term as VMRO-DPMNE's president if I receive the support of the delegates," he said, adding that he would not support any initiatives to change the party's statute. mr/
