Trump: war may end 'soon' as there's little left to target

Washington, 12 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump has claimed that the war with Iran may end soon.
Trump told news outlet Axios in a brief phone interview on Wednesday that the war with Iran will end "soon" because there is "practically nothing left to target."
"Any time I want it to end, it will end," Trump said during the five-minute call.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, however, dashed hopes of a quick end to the war.
"The operation will continue without any time limit, as long as required, until we accomplish all objectives and achieve victory in the campaign," Katz said, according to his office, during a meeting with army leaders at the military headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Israeli army spokesman Effie Defrin also stated that Israel's military still had an extensive list of targets. Israel's military was also prepared to continue its mission in Iran for as long as necessary.
Two days ago, Trump had already suggested that the war would soon come to an end, citing his own military successes as justification.
"I think the war is very complete, pretty much," he was quoted as saying by US broadcaster CBS News after a telephone interview on Monday.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reacted sharply to Trump's comments, saying they are the ones who will determine the end of the war in a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency.
