Resen, 5 June 2025 (MIA) - World Environment Day is observed through a very important project for the Prespa region, namely wastewater collection systems, for the purpose of preserving Lake Prespa's unique biodiversity, said European Union Ambassador Michalis Rokas at the project launch on Thursday.
Ambassador Rokas said the project has a double benefit and directly contributes to environmental protection.

"We are launching a very important project for this region, related to wastewater treatment systems, for the purpose of preserving the Lake Prespa biodiversity, because this should be an attractive region for tourists. This project has a double benefit - wastewater and solid waste treatment," said Rokas.
Resen Mayor Jovan Tozievski said the environmental project for the Pretor tourism area is of exceptional importance for the local self-government, since it would ensure the nature protection aspect.

"This project is one of the largest in the country, of utmost significance for the local population, environment protection and tourism in the area. We will build six wastewater systems, along with other activities that will provide a better quality of services for the population, protect the environment and promote tourism in Prespa," said Mayor Tozievski.
UNDP Resident Representative Armen Grigoryan said the organization has cooperated with the Prespa region in the sector of environment protection for two decades.
"We are pleased to be involved in this EU-funded project as the municipality's partners. Efforts will be invested in the coming period towards wastewater and solid waste treatment in order to preserve the fragile Lake Prespa ecosystem, thus protecting its biodiversity and improving the quality of life of the local population. I expect to see more opportunities opening for economic development through tourism and successful completion of the project," said Grigoryan.

Facilities for wastewater collection and treatment will be constructed in Pretor, Stenje, Krani, Dolno Dupeni, Brajchino and Slivnica.
