Skopje, 24 August 2025 (MIA) – Orce Gjorgjievski, the president of the Association of Local Self-Government Units (ZELS) who took part Sunday in a panel titled “600 million euros for development and local progress” that was held at the fair of mayors this weekend, said there is a major difference now compared to the past when the municipalities didn’t receive support from the central government for capital projects and since the formation of the new government, it is being invested in all municipalities equally. 

“As Minister Perinski said, 1,200 projects are projects that contain technical documentation that was mostly developed years ago, but due to a lack of funding in the past, the municipalities were unable to implement them.”

“This is a project that has been met positively by all citizens. For the first time in the history of the Republic of Macedonia, in 30 years, it is being invested in evert settlement. For the first time in the history of the Republic of Macedonia, so many schools, kindergartens, sports facilities and road infrastructure are being built like never before,” said Gjorgjievski. 

It's important that it is being invested in all municipalities, he reiterated. “It is a project that is being implemented for the first time in the country’s history in which every mayor is allocating fund to meet the needs of the citizens,” said Gjorgjievski.

He said he hopes the project will be implemented further “to seriously build and change the country as we are doing it at the moment.”
