Electoral Code working group holds constitutive session

Skopje, 9 March 2026 (MIA) - The Electoral Code working group held its constitutive session Monday at the Ministry of Justice, discussing its rules of procedure and manner of work. The group is chaired by Justice Minister Igor Filkov.

The group will hold its next session on March 23. In the meantime, members will receive the text of the amendments to the Electoral Code that will serve as the working document. The text was drafted by the Ministry of Justice in June 2025 and includes OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.

Justice Minister Filkov said the goal is to create a stable, credible, and inclusive electoral system, in line with European standards and good international practices.

“This process requires political maturity, dialogue, and consensus. I expect a constructive debate and active participation by all members, because reforms to the Electoral Code are essential for the country’s democratic development and the strengthening of the citizens’ trust in the electoral process,” Filkov said.

The Ministry stressed it remains fully committed to a transparent and efficient process, with clear dynamic and concrete results in the coming period.
