Rome, 24 March 2026 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa will miss Italy’s World Cup play-off semi-final against Northern Ireland in Bergamo on Thursday.

Chiesa played the last 13 minutes of Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Brighton on Saturday but has also been ruled out of Italy’s potential play-off final, against Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina, on March 31.

“Federico Chiesa, whose condition was assessed upon arrival at the Federal Technical Centre, was deemed unavailable for the next two matches and, in agreement with the club, left the national team’s training camp,” the Italian Football Federation said in a statement on Monday.

Bologna forward Nicolo Cambiaghi has been called up by Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso to replace Chiesa.
