Zendeli: SEC member vote most likely on February 28

Skopje, 19 February 2024 (MIA) - Besa MP Fadil Zendeli said Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski and whips agreed Monday that the vote for a new member of the State Election Commission (SEC) would take place on February 28.
"Considering there are many lawmakers on official trips abroad in the course of this week, it will be difficult to have the sufficient number of votes needed for the election of the SEC member. This option is still a possibility, but if we fail to do this by the week-end, February 28 remains as the definite date. Nevertheless, the Committee on Election and Appointment Issues has endorsed our candidate, which is a positive development," said Zendeli.
He expects no further hindrances for the election of Abdush Demiri as new SEC member, adding their boycott of the Parliament's operations has ended.
"We said back then that our boycott would last until our candidate is on the Parliament's agenda. This happened last week and thus our boycott ends. As of today, we are taking part in the work of all parliamentary bodies," said Zendeli.
Abdush Demiri of the parties from the European Alliance for Change is the candidate who has received the support from the Parliament's Election and Appointment Issues. Demiri's election requires a two-thirds majority.
The SEC spot has been vacant for months after Krenar Lloga was elected Justice Minister.
