Munich, 17 February 2023 (dpa/MIA) – President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the West to deliver weapons and other support to Ukraine with greater urgency, saying it is needed to defeat the "the Russian Goliath."

Speaking by video link to at the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky said that Russian President Vladimir Putin should not be allowed to buy time for his aggression, as this would result in many more people dying.

"For that reason, we need speed," Zelensky urged, saying lives depened upon it.

Delays had always proved costly to Ukraine, Zelensky said, repeating his call for modern tanks. Putin would allow the West not a minute's peace, and the Kremlin would be able to destroy all those gathered at the conference in safety, he said.

Zelensky emphasised that there was "no alternative" to Western solidarity towards Russia.
