Zelensky: No terrain lost so far in counteroffensive

Kiev, 20 June 2023 (dpa/MIA) - According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian army has so far not suffered any losses of terrain in its ongoing counteroffensive against the Russian occupiers.

"In some areas our warriors are moving forward, in some areas they are defending their positions and resisting the occupiers' assaults and intensified attacks," Zelensky said in his evening video address on Monday. "We have no lost positions. Only liberated ones."

Once again, he promised his compatriots that the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag would eventually fly again over all currently occupied regions in the south and east.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has been waging a war of aggression ever since.

Almost a fortnight ago, the Ukrainian army launched a long-awaited counteroffensive and, according to its own information, has since liberated eight villages and some 113 square kilometres of territory.

At the same time, however, there has been talk in Kiev of fierce resistance from the Russians and of a "difficult situation" on the front.
