Skopje, 31 May 2024 (MIA) – Liberal Democratic Party President Monika Zajkova stated that LDP will continue to act independently in Parliament, as it has done so far. She highlighted that the coalition maintains its status as the main opposition party in the Parliament and expects all parties to stay consistent in their positions.

Zajkova told Sitel TV that the LDP will act as it did in the previous parliamentary term.

"In the previous parliamentary term, we were represented by two MPs, as were our predecessors. This indicates that the LDP functions independently of other political entities, adhering to its own program directions and policies in the Parliament. You know that in the previous parliamentary term, the LDP did not support the amendments to the Criminal Code or the Gambling Law. Instead, it put forward several of its own legislative initiatives, including amendments to the Criminal Code related to the statute of limitations for criminal offenses, initiatives focused on animal welfare, and the demand for a single electoral unit remains,” she said.

“The coalition maintains its status as the leading opposition party in the Parliament and the corresponding ratio it holds in the committees. If you act and sometimes disagree with certain policies of your coalition and lend support to policies that are part of your programmatic goals, even if they come from another coalition, doesn't imply any breach or should make any party feel disadvantaged,” she said.

Regarding the relations between the LDP and SDSM, she said they are correct, just like with all actors on the political scene.

Zajkova also noted that if it's about the interests of the country, they would support policies of VMRO-DPMNE as well.

Regarding the events concerning the Prespa Agreement and relations with neighboring countries, particularly regarding the inauguration of the new president, she responded that they should be given time to see what policies they will adopt.

The Liberal Democratic Party held its first session of the Central Committee following the elections last night, during which it decided to fully support President Monika Zajkova and the leadership to lead and represent the party in future actions and in the public sphere.
