Zaev: SDSM supports resolution, constitutional name must be respected
Skopje, 13 July 2021 (MIA) – SDSM supports the resolution filed by VMRO-DPMNE and stands fully behind the protection of the Macedonian language and identity, but the Constitution must be respected when it comes to the country’s name, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Tuesday. “If someone wants to avoid the constitutional name they should do it on their own, we will not partake. We will not break the Constitution. The country’s constitutional name is Republic of North Macedonia. We support the VMRO-DPMNE declaration, will stand behind it so that everyone is clear with the fact that we are all together in protecting the Macedonian language and identity, but this does not mean that we should break the Constitution,” noted Zaev. According to him, the Parliament, the Government, institutions and political parties are the first ones to respect the Constitution. “Republic of Macedonia is mentioned in several places of the resolution. The country’s constitutional name is Republic of North Macedonia. The preamble should also read Republic of North Macedonia. This is part of the Constitution not whether we like it or not,” said Zaev.
