Zaev reiterates he’ll wait for results of Tetovo hospital fire investigation before deciding whether to accept resignations
Skopje, 22 September 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev reiterated on Wednesday the position that he will wait for the results of the investigation into the Tetovo modular hospital fire before deciding whether to accept the resignations of the two hospital directors, as well as those of the Health Minister and Deputy Health Minister. “I retain the position that I’ll make a decision in regard to the ethical resignations of the hospital director, the economic director, the Minister of Health and the Deputy Minister of Health in line with information produced by the investigation,” Zaev told a press conference. He expressed hopes that the investigation will wrap up as soon as possible, because people want to know exactly what happened and what caused the fire. In regard to the opposition’s request for establishing an inquiry committee for the hospital fire, the Prime Minister noted that neither he, nor Parliament, have the authority to investigate institutions. “Our policies and positions are consistent. When the investigation is over and experts and professionals are done with their work, they’ll submit their reports and then Parliament has the right to establish inquiry committees, debate, analyze, correct, etc.,” Zaev said. Asked whether there’s room to suspect misuse of funds provided by the World Bank, he waved off doubts. “We’re thankful that the World Bank provided such flexible tools for a lot of countries, including us, so that we can take a proactive approach to hospitalizations at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases and set up temporary modular hospitals across the country. Specifications are the same worldwide. The investigation is set to provide all the details and answer all the questions,” Zaev concluded.
