Zaev: Parliamentary majority to enlarge
Skopje, 26 October 2021 (MIA) – Those who say a new parliamentary majority is upon us after the second round of the local elections should say if they support the Prespa Agreement or the Bulgaria Friendship Treaty, EU and NATO, because these are the fundamentals for coalitions in the Parliament. The existing parliamentary majority can only enlarge not change, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev on Tuesday. Asked if the parliamentary majority is under threat after Alternativa rejected the possibility of joining the ruling majority, while Besa received the support from the Alliance of Albanians for their mayor candidates, PM Zaev said this is “their legitimate right”. “Absolutely not. These are local elections, it is legitimate that political parties make their own partnerships, coalitions and agreements for the runoff, and this goes for all parties taking part in the second round,” Zaev told reporters. He reiterated that the ones announcing a new majority after the local elections should say if they support the Prespa Agreement or the Bulgaria Friendship Treaty, one society for all, law on the use of languages. “This is the core, will they push EU integration through friendly dialogue and diplomacy or enter a clinch. This is what coalitions and the parliamentary majorities are founded on. I am certain the parliamentary majority will increase, and if you read closely what Alternativa said, ‘a new government majority will be announced on Monday after the runoff’, you should ask them which government majority they are referring to,” claimed Zaev. He added that SDSM and Alternative have enjoyed good cooperation and see prospects in serving the country in the field of Euro-integration and the ‘one society for all’ concept, not the nationalism of the Alliance of Albanians and VMRO-DPMNE. “There are no political entities that could join VMRO-DPMNE, because their policies go against NATO and EU, quarrelling with Bulgaria and Greece, failure to use the constitutional name. Another parliamentary majority has no future. As I have already said, Alternativa was hurt, underestimated and humiliated during this entire period in coalition with the AA. In addition, it was also forced to enter into a coalition with VMRO-DPMNE at these elections. Finally, the votes that the AA/A coalition got at these elections send a message of what is sustainable and what’s not. In addition, Besa has continually reaffirmed its support for the majority. Once again, the parliamentary majority can only enlarge not change,” underlined Zaev.
