Zaev announces key strategic investments at Tetovo rally
Tetovo, 3 October 2021 (MIA) – SDSM leader Zoran Zaev announced that the central government will support four large projects in Tetovo and the region. These include Popova Shapka, a new hospital and reconstruction of the stadium, new waste water treatment plant and construction of regional landfill. Speaking Sunday at a rally in Tetovo as part of SDSM’s election campaign, he said that European company will invest EUR 100 million to develop a ski center on Popova Shapka, including a complex of at least three hotels. “We’re in the second stage of negotiations and I hope the company itself will announce it,” Zaev said. Also, the company Ekolog has been preparing a large strategic investment in Tetovo. “The investment estimated at EUR 300 million will provide new hospital, a reconstructed stadium and new office and residential buildings. The project is as European as it could be in the region,” Zaev revealed. The third project announced by Zaev at the Tetovo rally involves the construction of a waste water treatment plant worth EUR 50 million with 85% of funds provided by the EU and 15% from the state budget. The fourth project is a regional landfill for the Polog region, which is set to be implemented in the next two years after the new local government takes office. Addressing the election rally in Tetovo, where a modular COVID-19 hospital burned down last month killing 14 people, Zaev once again offered deepest condolences to the families of the victims. “Any information about the devastating tragedy comes from the institutions, like it should. This evening, I will not misuse this topic to score points head of the local elections,” he stated. SDSM has nominated Hamdija Elezovikj to run for mayor of Tetovo in the October 17 local elections. Speaking to supporters, Elezovikj pledged to make Tetovo and developed and modern municipality with more greenery, clean air, clean environment, clean streets and pavements and quality standards for living for its residents, where private businesses and artisans will be supported. He noted that the ethnic, religious, social and political unity of Tetovo should be demonstrated. SDSM’s election caravan on Sunday included stops in Zhelino, Brvenica, Bogovinje, Urvich and Jegunovce. The ruling party also held a rally in Skopje’s Gjorche Petrov, where Aleksandar Naumovski is running for mayor.
