Zaev and Besimi announce plan for financial recovery and growth acceleration
Skopje, 6 September 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi announced on Monday a plan for financial recovery and growth acceleration, set to fund COVID-19 economic recovery and support growth acceleration, while at the same time ensuring fiscal stability by mobilizing private sector capital in addition to budget funds and loans. While delivering an opening address at inaugural annual conference themed “Economic recovery and growth post-COVID”, Zaev said that the plan showcases multiplicative effects set to be produced by investments, listed by financial instrument, funding sources, investment areas and ongoing, as well as planned projects. “It also defines an action plan for implementation of activities, wrapping up and speeding up ongoing processes and a timeline for start of future projects. Moreover, it defines a clear structure of units with various competences, set to lead to successful implementation. The establishment of a Delivery Unit, Monitoring Unit and PIMA will ensure timely inspection into certain priorities, realization, weaknesses, obstacles and urgent tasks. I honestly believe that this is the way to overcome institutional weaknesses and strengthen capacities,” the PM underlined. The new plan, he added, is a complementary document to the 2021-2027 Intervention Investment Plan. “The government’s economic team continues to work on plans for the country’s medium term development. In that regard, the 2021-2027 Intervention Investment Plan encompasses all investments set to be launched in North Macedonia, by both domestic and foreign investors. It’s a strategic document with clearly defined elements such as investment values, key areas and approaches. The plan for financial recovery and growth acceleration is a complementary document to the 2021-2027 Intervention Investment Plan,” Zaev said. Three panels are taking place as part of the conference on Monday and three more will take place on Tuesday.
