Skopje, 28 February 2024 (MIA) - Due to the fact that we are amidst a year of elections, it is the Government's added task to set up the prerequisites for free, fair and democratic elections, caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi told Albania's Report TV.

PM Xhaferi says the feeling of responsibility to the country prevails when asked about his sentiment of being the first ethnic Albanian PM of North Macedonia.

"I was the first ethnic Albanian Parliament Speaker and now PM but I have always highlighted the feeling of responsibility for the challenges arising from the tasks of the office regarding the country's management," says Xhaferi.

On the possibility of having an ethnic Albanian as President, he expects this to happen once a change in the perception around the ethnicity happens.

Xhaferi also refers to current developments in North Macedonia and the significance of the European Commission's Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

"Tomorrow summit is a continuation of the one held in Skopje a month ago, discussing the European single market, the joint regional market and other economic topics," says Xhaferi.
