Xhaferi: Von der Leyen visit confirms legitimacy of our commitment to EU membership
Skopje, 27 October 2022 (MIA) – The visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the country is an exceptional sign of unity and support from the European Union, confirming the legitimacy of our strategic commitment to full-fledged membership in the European Union, says Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi. Speaker Xhaferi attended late Wednesday the dinner hosted by President Stevo Pendarovski in honor of EC President von der Leyen, also attended by EU Ambassador David Geer. Xhaferi saluted von der Leyen’s visit to the Western Balkans amid a period of energy crisis, saying her arrival represents an added support of the EU to the Republic of North Macedonia and the region, the Parliament said in a press release. It adds that the visit is an exceptional sign of unity and support from the European Union, confirming the legitimacy of North Macedonia’s strategic commitment to full-fledged EU membership. The signing of the Frontex agreement in Macedonian language reaffirms what the Speaker told the EC President at a recent meeting, that “the Macedonian language will be registered without any footnotes and time will tell that the right decision was made”.
