Skopje, 28 May 2024 (MIA) - Caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi, who has also been elected as a member of parliament, announced at Tuesday’s session of the new Parliament that he will perform this function until the election of the new Government, and that until then, he will not participate in the work and decisions of the Parliament.

According to the government's press release, Xhaferi referred to the Constitution, laws, and previous practices.

"I hereby inform the public and relevant institutions officially that, as Prime Minister and as part of the government, based on the conclusion reached by this government, I will continue to carry out the duties and obligations stemming from the position of Prime Minister of the country until the election of the next Government from this government composition. I will refrain from participating in the proceedings of the Assembly, and in compliance with the Law on Prevention of Corruption, and to prevent corruption and conflicts of interest, as I cannot concurrently hold two positions, two functions. Therefore, until the election of the next Government, I will abstain from engaging in the work and decision-making processes of the Parliament, in order to adhere to the legal provisions outlined in the Law on Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest. This announcement aims to inform everyone and resolve any uncertainties regarding the future operation of the institutions," Xhaferi said.
