Xhaferi in Ukraine: North Macedonia to provide all possible support
Skopje, 27 April 2022 (MIA) — Visiting the destroyed town of Irpin, Ukraine, and the ruins of Hostomel airport, Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi said Wednesday he would personally strive for North Macedonia’s institutions and public to provide all possible support to the war-ravaged country together with the European Union and the international community. According to an official press release, Parliament Speaker Xhaferi said what was happening in Ukraine was genocide. “We in the Western Balkans have vivid memories of such images we saw as recently as two decades ago. Rachak in Kosovo is vivid in our memory, Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina is vivid. Of course we understand best what these images mean,” Xhaferi said. He pointed out that his visit to Bucha and Irpin was a symbol of personal, institutional, and public support of North Macedonia for the people of Ukraine. Parliament Speaker Xhaferi is the first high official from North Macedonia and the first parliament speaker from the region to visit Ukraine. He arrived in Ukraine by train via Poland in the early morning at the invitation of the Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The Parliament Speakers of Romania and Switzerland are also visiting Ukraine. During his visit, Xhaferi will address the Congress of Local and Regional Councils presided by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. mr/
