Skopje, 7 August 2024 (MIA) - In a press release Wednesday, the Worth It coalition described the no-confidence motion initiated against the Speaker of Parliament, Afrim Gashi, as an attempt to cause a political earthquake and put the ruling majority to the test.
The party described the motion as an “anti-NATO experiment”.
“As with every other political experiment, the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament, Afrim Gashi, has some essential elements. A motive is necessary, like the airport incident. Then, hysteria is being created in the public. Political responsibility is sought at fanfares. A fabrication is being created involving the members of the security of the Speaker of Parliament. Levica is the initiator of the motion, SDSM is a supporter, while DUI is looking for an alibi to publicly join this company and take the role of political coordinator,” Worth It said in the press release.
It added the goal of the motion “is certainly not defending the diplomatic relations with Kosovo nor the Ohrid Framework Agreement”.
“What is the goal? It is certainly not defending the diplomatic relations with Kosovo nor the Ohrid Framework Agreement – the goal is to cause a political earthquake. Why? To put the ruling majority to the test and for someone to see whether the opposition can find a joint interest to work together,” Worth It said.
The party said its MPs are ready to “defend the honor of the Albanian people, the strategic partnership with the United States, and the values of the European Union”.
“The key dilemma is whether DUI is really so scared of what will follow that it is ready to coordinate even with Levica just to avoid a discussion of the crimes of their former officials? The time of truth is coming,” the party stressed.
Levica’s parliamentary group has initiated a no-confidence motion against Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi for "unprincipled" conduct in office, giving seven arguments, elaborated on ten pages, on why he should be removed from his post.
Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev said he expects the no-confidence motion to be placed on the agenda after Parliament’s summer recess, i.e. in early September.
SDSM also called for Gashi to be held responsible.
On the other hand, ruling VMRO-DPMNE has dismissed the calls to change the Speaker of Parliament, assessing the accusations by SDSM, DUI and Levica as attempts “to win political points”.
