WFP delivers first aid convoy via Jordan to Gaza

Amman/Gaza, 20 December 2023 (dpa/MIA) - A convoy of 46 trucks organized by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) transported more than 750 tons of food into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

It marks the first time an aid convoy from Jordan had directly reached the Gaza Strip since the hostilities started on October 7.

"Establishing a corridor through Jordan will increase the flow of aid and remove some of the pressure and congestion we are currently facing," said Samer AbdelJaber, WFP palestine representative and country director/emergency coordinator.

So far, all relief supplies have been transported via a border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

"Delivering food from Jordan to Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing will increase the volume and speed of food reaching the Gaza Strip, as millions face the risk of starvation," the WFP said.
