Western Balkans on Monday’s agenda of EU FAC

Western Balkans on Monday’s agenda of EU FAC
Brussels, 11 November 2022 (MIA) – The European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) is set to hold a meeting on Monday, discussing developments in the Western Balkans, with a focus on the Belgrade-Prishtina dialogue, MIA reports from Brussels. Foreign ministers will discuss the recent escalation between Serbia and Kosovo that has caused concern in the EU. There is also concern over the constitutional standstill in Montenegro and political tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On North Macedonia, the EU will encourage the country to “make the necessary decisions” in order to get the green light for the first proper intergovernmental conference and opening of the EU negotiating chapters, a senior EU diplomat told MIA. These decisions relate to the constitutional changes for inclusion of Bulgarians in the highest legislative act. An EU-Western Balkans Summit is set to take place in Tirana on December 6 and the FAC will serve as preparation for it, say diplomats. Besides the Western Balkans, FMs will primarily discuss the situation in Ukraine, especially after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kherson, as well as further support for Kiev and management of the global crisis as a result of the war.
