Waning interest in Covid-19 vaccines in Gostivar
Gostivar, 27 October 2022 (MIA) — Despite the rising number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Gostivar, the locals' interest in vaccinating against the virus has dropped dramatically over the past three months, according to Gostivar Center for Public Health’s vaccination unit head Dafina Bogdanovska. On average, only five people a week have been getting their Covid-19 shots at the vaccination site, Bogdanovska told MIA’s Gostivar correspondent. “Over the past three or four months, the interest [in getting vaccinated] has not been as strong as it used to be,” she said. Pointing out a new surge of coronavirus infections, however, Bogdanovska urged citizens to protect themselves and their families, and seniors in particular. “The most recent vaccination appointment was yesterday, when we vaccinated a young man with a first dose. But, in general, we vaccinate five people a week, at most. My recommendation is to protect at least the elderly, especially those who have not been vaccinated,” Bogdanovska said. She said seasonal flu shots were available as well and could be administered at the same time as a Covid-19 shot. The Gostivar Center for Public Health, she said, has at its disposal both Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines, with walk-in vaccinations available from 11 am to 2 pm every workday. mr/
