Vučić: Serbia to allow limited export of wheat to region
Belgrade, 14 March 2022 (MIA) — Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said Monday that Serbia would allow the export of wheat to Albania as soon as possible and that this would be the case with every country within the Open Balkans initiative and the region, according to MIA’s Belgrade correspondent. In response to reporters’ questions in Vranje, Serbia, President Vučić noted the increasing demand for wheat, oil, flour, and corn. Serbia had signed agreements to export as much as 350,000 tons of wheat, he said, but he had asked the government to stop some of these exports because he wanted to keep an extra 800,000 tons of wheat in Serbia's commodity reserves for the citizens of the region. “The first official requests we received were related to our agreements signed with Albania. This is what we’re talking about now and we’ll allow the export of wheat to Albania as soon as possible. This was promptly resolved,” he said, adding that this applied to any country in the region. “It's good husbandry,” Vučić said. “No one in the region, either within the Open Balkans or in Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro, will have any problems.” mr/
