Skopje, 24 October 2024 (MIA) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Thursday in Skopje that all efforts are invested in opening the 'Fundamentals' cluster while adding that the constitutional change must be worked on.
Von der Leyen was asked during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski if she believed that the requirements for the country are discriminatory and whether the delayed implementation of the constitutional changes is acceptable for the EU.
"We will help to implement the commitment that North Macedonia took as a sovereign state on every step of the way. For me it is very important that we have a very clear goal. I am working as hard as possible that we can open the negotiations on the 'Fundamentals' cluster, that is our short-term goal now. Indeed, the constitutional change has to be worked on. For me it is very important and it is in the interest of North Macedonia that we are successful, and therefore I want to reaffirm and reassure you that we will be with you every step of the way forward to get to our common goal. You can count on us. For me, it is important that we do not look too much to the past but to the future, and we want to write the next chapter of our common future together," said von der Leyen.
