Von der Leyen and Michel congratulate Siljanovska-Davkova on assuming presidential office

Brussels, 12 May 2024 (MIA) - The Presidents of the European Commission and the EU Council, Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel, congratulated President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova on her inauguration as President of North Macedonia on Sunday, stressing their commitment to cooperation with the country on its path to the European Union.
“Congratulations, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, on becoming the first female President of North Macedonia. Your leadership comes at a crucial time, as your country advances its reforms and continues on its path towards the EU. I’m looking forward to working with you,” Von der Leyen wrote in a post on social media platform X.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, also congratulated Siljanovska-Davkova in a post on X.
“I look forward to working with you on advancing North Macedonia’s path towards the EU, through implementation of reforms and commitments. The future of North Macedonia & the Western Balkans is in the EU,” wrote Michel.
In a separate post on Sunday, von der Leyen also reminded that “for North Macedonia to continue its successful path on EU accession it is paramount that the country continues on the path of reforms and full respect for its binding agreements, including the Prespa Agreement”.
