VMRO-DPMNE to announce names of ministers and deputy ministers in caretaker gov’t on Wednesday evening

Skopje, 23 January 2024 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE is set to announce the names of their proposals for ministers and deputy ministers in the caretaker government after a session of the party’s Executive Committee on Wednesday evening, the opposition party told MIA on Tuesday.

 

The party is expected to propose candidates for a minister of interior and a minister of labor and social policy, as well as additional deputy ministers of finance; information society and administration; and agriculture, forestry and water economy.

 

The party’s Central Committee, in consultations with the Executive Committee and other prominent members of the party and broader social stakeholders, authorized the party’s leader, Hristijan Mickoski, to select the party’s members in the caretaker government.

 

In line with the law, the caretaker government needs to be elected on January 28, i.e., 100 days before the parliamentary elections which are scheduled for May 8.

 

Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said he would resign on Thursday, while Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, who is set to be the caretaker prime minister, will announce the date of his resignation as well as the date for the vote for the caretaker government, on Wednesday. As Speaker of Parliament, Xhaferi will be succeeded by SDSM’s Jovan Mitreski.
