VMRO-DPMNE MPs are against Gashi's replacement because responsibility has been located, criminal charges filed

Skopje, 6 August 2024 (MIA) - The VMRO-DPMNE parliamentary group does not believe it is necessary to remove Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi from his post, because responsibility has been located and criminal charges have been filed, the party said in a press release.

"The institutions took urgent measures like never before. We now see criminal charges, whereas in the past such cases were swept under the rug," VMRO-DPMNE said in reaction to the no-confidence motion against Gashi, which was initiated by the Levica parliamentary group on Wednesday, as well as SDSM's demand for Mickoski toi immediately dismiss Gashi as Parliament Speaker.

The recent incident at the Skopje Airport involving Gashi's security detail chief is one of the seven arguments on which Dimitar Apasiev's party based the non-confidence motion.

Unlike in the past, VMRO-DPMNE notes in the press release, "when no one lifted a finger", the institutions are now acting - responsibility is a located and criminal charges are filed.

"We proved that there is a state and that the laws must apply to everyone. The attempts of SDS, DUI and Levica to score political points on this topic do not surprise us, and we expect such and similar attempts at deviant behaviour on their part in the future as well," adds the press release.

VMRO-DPMNE also noted that the party's leader, Hristijan Mickoski, has conveyed "a clear message that no one is above the law".

"VMRO-DPMNE condemns and will always condemn any actions outside the law, actions that disrupt the order, everyone will yet be convinced that the laws will apply equally to everyone," the press release reads.
