VMRO-DPMNE leader says party will attend caretaker gov’t vote, but won’t vote for Xhaferi

Skopje, 24 January 2024 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski told TV Telma in an interview Wednesday that the party will not vote for the caretaker government headed by Talat Xhaferi as caretaker Prime Minister.

“We won’t be like SDSM. Yes, we will attend the vote, but we will abstain from voting. We believe that Talat Xhaferi doesn’t deserve to be voted. If we look back at his second term [as Speaker of Parliament] he has violated the Rules of Procedure, the Constitution, on several occasions. He is the product of a political agreement between SDSM and DUI. You can’t support a political agreement between political parties that you’re only joining because of the law,” said Mickoski.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader said if he is Prime Minister, he wouldn’t accept “such a person” to be a part of his Government.

“Xhaferi wouldn’t be [a part of the Government] if I have a chance to choose a part of the team of people I would collaborate with. And the citizens will state this on May 8. If they do give me their trust, then be assured that Talat Xhaferi won’t be [a part of the Government],” said Mickoski.

In the interview, Mickoski revealed the names of the party’s candidates for ministers and deputy ministers in the caretaker government, which are to be discussed by VMRO-DPMNE’s Executive Committee at a session on Wednesday evening.
