Visit of COELA to North Macedonia
Skopje, 14 September 2022 (MIA) - The Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU (COELA) will pay a working visit to North Macedonia on 14-15 September, EU Delegation in Skopje said in a press release.
This is the first working visit of COELA to the country, which comes as a result of the opening of EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia in July 2022.
The visit will include meetings with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief Negotiator Bojan Marichikj, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani and representatives of ministries and other institutions involved in the so called ‘Cluster 1’ of EU accession negotiations (the ‘Fundamentals’).
COELA will also meet Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi and attend a joint session of the National Council for European Integration, chaired by MP Aleksandar Nikoloski, and the Parliamentary Committee on EU Affairs, chaired by MP Arber Ademi, in the Parliament on 14 September.
The delegates from COELA will also exchange views with representatives of civil society organisations.
COELA is a body of the Council of the EU, composed of diplomats of all EU Member States, which is in charge of the enlargement process and relations with candidate countries that are negotiating their accession to the EU.
COELA is chaired by the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU and in the second semester of 2022 the body is chaired by a diplomat from the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU, reads the press release.
