Varhelyi: No more obstacles for North Macedonia, Bulgaria accepts solution
Brussels, 27 June 2022 (MIA) – European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said Monday the EU intergovernmental conferences with North Macedonia and Albania can take place in the coming days, MIA reports from Brussels. “Lot of efforts have been invested in overcoming remaining issues between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. We are nearly there. This is now the moment for all actors to take the final step. I have high hopes that the intergovernmental conferences with Albania and North Macedonia can be held within a matter of days. The countries have delivered all that has been asked, they are ready and we should be too. We have now a solution on the table endorsed by the Bulgarian parliament, so all obstacles are overcome. Europe must move forward,” Commissioner Varhelyi told Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting “EU enlargement policy in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine”. He added that the EU is committed to bring the entire region into the Union and that Western Balkans’ countries would be integrated in all crisis response mechanisms, including those on food and gas security.
