Washington, 7 February 2026 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump has said further talks between representatives of his administration and Iran will be held early next week.
Talks with the Iranian delegation on Friday were "very good," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
"Iran looks like it wants to make a deal very badly," he said.
Trump again warned of consequences if no agreement were reached and reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear weapons.
Mediated by Oman, the United States and Iran on Friday began a new round of negotiations.
"It was a good start," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later told state television, leaving open whether and when the talks would continue.
Until Trump's comments, the United States had issued no official statements on the outcome of the meeting.
The US president has also threatened punitive tariffs against Iran's trading partners.
According to the executive order, tariffs could be imposed on imports into the US from countries that buy or import goods or services from the Islamic Republic. Trump did not name any specific countries, but cited 25% as an example of the possible tariff rate.
The move once again raised pressure on Iran. Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran's leadership in Tehran, citing its brutal crackdown on demonstrators during recent mass protests as well as its controversial nuclear programme.
