Washington, 3 March 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The United States is providing Ukraine with new military aid worth $400 million to defend against Russia's invasion.

The package mainly includes ammunition, such as for US-supplied HIMARS multiple rocket launchers and howitzers, the US State Department said on Friday.

Ammunition for the Bradley infantry fighting vehicles that Washington has promised to send is also included.

Since the war began, US military aid to Ukraine has totalled more than $32 billion, not including the new package, according to recent Pentagon figures, making Washington Ukraine's most important ally.

On Friday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz planned to exchange views on the war in Ukraine at a working meeting with US President Joe Biden in Washington. The two are also expected to look ahead to the future strategy of the Western allies as regards the war.
