Washington, 15 August 2024 (dpa/MIA) – The United States expects talk in Doha on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to continue into Friday, National Security Council communications head John Kirby has told journalists in Washington.

"Today [Thursday], we are focused on the details of the implementation of the agreement," Kirby said.

"There remains a lot of work to do, given the complexity of the agreement, we do not anticipate coming out of these talks today with a deal.

"In fact, I'd expect the talks to continue into tomorrow [Friday]."

Kirby nevertheless described the talks as a "promising start."
