US – Adriatic Charter (A5) member countries adopt joint statement of support for Ukraine

New York, 20 September 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bujar Osmani, as Chairperson-in-Office of the US – Adriatic Charter (A5), hosted a working breakfast of the foreign ministers of the A5 countries, which was held within the frameworks of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. According to the MFA, the talks focused on the current situation in the Western Balkans, as well as ways to strengthen the security and stability of the region.

“The promotion of European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes for the Western Balkan countries, and the strengthening of regional cooperation represent a driver of democratic processes and the best tools for ensuring long-term stability and regional prosperity,” stressed Osmani.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the need to adapt A5 to the new geopolitical reality and current security challenges.

“Two decades after the establishment of the US-Adriatic Charter, the circumstances and the world in which we live have dramatically changes, especially following the brutal Russian aggression on Ukraine. Which is why, as chair of the A5, we initiated the creation of a new Strategic Concept of the Charter that will reflect the new geopolitical reality and the new regional dynamics. While we strive towards this important goal, we remain committed to the Charter’s open door policy, and continuously support Kosovo’s application to join the A5,” said Osmani.

At the end of the meeting, the foreign ministers adopted a joint statement of support for Ukraine, reaffirming the support of the A5 countries for the Ukrainian people.
