Washington, 13 May 2022 (dpa/MIA) - US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin demanded an immediate ceasefire in a call with Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu in their first exchange since Moscow began its invasion of Ukraine.

Austin "urged an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication," the Pentagon said.

They last spoke on February 18, the Pentagon said in a statement.
