London, 8 April 2024 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Liverpool missed the chance to climb back to the top of the Premier League as they were held to a 2-2 draw against rivals Manchester United on Jürgen Klopp’s final visit to Old Trafford.

"We should have won the game, that’s clear, but we caused a few problems for ourselves. We controlled the game, scored the first one and should have had other goals," Klopp told broadcasters Sky Sports.

Three weeks after their FA Cup defeat, Liverpool dominated the first period and took the lead when Darwin Nunez’s flick-on was smashed in by Luis Diaz at the back post.

United did not have a shot in the first half but came to life in the second.

Jarrell Quansah’s poor pass in midfield handed Bruno Fernandes an opportunity and he took it with both hands with a first-time hit from fully 45 yards that flew past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

And the hosts hit the front in the 67th minute when Kobbie Mainoo curled home beautifully from inside the box.

Liverpool were handed the chance to level from the penalty spot in the 84th minute when Aaron Wan-Bissaka chopped down Harvey Elliott and Mohamed Salah sent Andre Onana the wrong way as both sides took a share of the spoils.

"We should have been 2-0 up at least. We had them under control. It definitely feels like a loss at this point. Because we were wasteful in our chances we gave them a lifeline," Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said.

"We should have won it today but the reality is that we didn’t and we have to make it up in the other games that come," he added.

Oliver McBurnie snatched a last-gasp equalizer as Sheffield United twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Bramall Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side went the front when Thiago Silva side-footed home from a corner, but the Blades hit back just after the half-hour mark when Jayden Bogle slammed the ball beyond Djordje Petrovic at his front post.

Chelsea regained their advantage through Noni Madueke’s ferocious strike midway through the second half and they thought they had secured all three points until McBurnie poked past Petrovic deep into stoppage time.

Tottenham climbed into the top four with a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

Murillo slid in his own net to give Spurs the lead, but Forest drew level when Chris Wood swept home inside the box and he could have given them the lead but fired against a post from three yards out before the break.

Spurs grabbed two goals in the second period thanks to powerful efforts from defensive pair Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro to seal victory.

"It’s a nice evening, a really important game for us and a huge three points. It was my first goal in this stadium and I will never forget it. It was an important game and we have to build on it," van de Ven told Sky Sports.
