Washington, 25 April 2024 (MIA) - Free and fair elections are an essential foundation of a strong democracy, said U.S. Democratic Senator from Vermont, Peter Welch, on the presidential election in North Macedonia, Voice of America in Macedonian reports.
"I'm hopeful that citizens use their ballot to secure North Macedonia’s future through increased economic opportunity and strengthened ties with the U.S. and Europe," Senator Welch posted on X.
Last month, Senators Peter Welch (Dem.), Jeanne Shaheen (Dem.), Thom Tillis (Rep.), and Pete Ricketts (Rep.) sponsored the latest resolution introduced in the Senate, by which the United States affirms its support for North Macedonia’s European Union accession.
In the resolution, the Senate calls on the President, the Secretary of State, and European allies to advocate for the opening of the first European Union negotiation cluster with North Macedonia without further bilateral conditions.
