Skopje, 17 July 2024 (MIA) - Four helicopters, three of which Macedonian and one Montenegrin, will be sent to tackle the wildfire on Serta mountain in Negotino municipality, two Slovenian helicopters will counter the fire near Gevgelija, while a Turkish and a Serbian helicopter will be deployed at Ograzhden mountain in Novo Selo municipality, said Crisis Management Center (CMC) director Stojanche Angelov after a briefing with the helicopter pilots early on Wednesday.
The firefighting planes - three of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, two from Turkey and one from Croatia - will also be engaged in the Serta wildfire in the area of Shtip municipality.
"We will try to put the large fire on Serta mountain under control. The aircraft will be joined by Army and police. In addition, a large 'Hercules' aircraft from Romania is expected to arrive this morning, accompanied by another logistics plane," said Angelov.
He added that several other wildfires that would most probably require aerial support are also active in the municipalities of Chashka, Dolneni, Studenichani, Zelenikovo, Radovish and below Solunska Glava mountain peak.
The CMC has said there were a total of 36 open-air fires over the past 24 hours, 18 of which are still active.
