Two police officers injured after violent protesters threw smoke grenades, bottles at Parliament
Skopje, 6 July 2022 (MIA) - Tensions erupted during Tuesday's protest against the French proposal in front of the Parliament in Skopje. MIA's reporters covering the protest report that smoke grenades, firecrackers and bottles were thrown at the police cordon guarding the legislative house. Two police officers have been injured, the Interior Ministry confirmed to MIA. Several protesters started chasing people wearing masks once they appeared at the protest trying to catch them. Unofficially, two masked man were caught, however reporters are not allowed to come near them. According to the police, a man was arrested on his way to the Parliament while carrying a hammer and stones. Before the incident, protesters set on fire a banner with photos of lawmakers with the word "traitors" written across. The protest march started in front of the government before protesters stopped outside the Foreign Ministry where they laid roses before the police officers guarding the building. In downtown Skopje near the Old Bazaar, a standoff occurred between the protesters and a group of people before the police intervened. Witnesses say that gunshots were heard.
