Madrid, 5 November 2022 (dpa/MIA) — Two climate activists glued themselves to the frames of two paintings by Spanish master Francisco de Goya at the Prado museum in Madrid on Saturday. Between the two paintings, "The Naked Maja" and "The Clothed Maja," they wrote "+1.5 degrees C" on the wall, as shown in a video recording. The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement sets the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, to prevent the worst consequences of climate change. It now looks probable, however, that temperatures will rise much more. The two activists wore shirts bearing the inscription "Futuro Vegetal" (Plant-based Future). The group says it is fighting the climate crisis by advocating agricultural practices restricted to plant products. Other activists have glued themselves to paintings or thrown liquid food at them, ahead of the COP27 climate summit starting in Egypt on Sunday. None of the artworks have been damaged as they were protected by glass.
