Twitter restores account of former US president Donald Trump
Social media company Twitter has restored the account of former US president Donald Trump, new owner Elon Musk said on Saturday. Musk held a poll on the social media platform, asking users whether Trump's account should be reinstated. Some 15 million users responded, with 51.8% voting yes. "The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei," Musk tweeted, using a Latin phrase meaning "the voice of the people, the voice of God". It is unclear whether Trump will begin using Twitter again, having created his own platform called Truth Social. "Vote now with positivity, but don’t worry, we aren’t going anywhere. Truth Social is special!" Trump posted on Truth Social while Musk's poll was active. Trump was suspended from Twitter in January 2021, two days after pro-Trump rioters stormed the US Capitol Building, halting a joint session of Congress and leading to the death of five people. On Tuesday, he launched a bid to regain the White House in 2024.
