Turkey arrests man sought for Haiti president's death
Istanbul, 16 November 2021 (dpa/MIA) - Turkish authorities have arrested a man considered a suspect in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise, state news agency Anadolu reported.
Samir Handal, one of the suspects wanted in connection with the murder of Moise in July, was detained on arrival at Istanbul Airport, Anadolu reported late Monday.
He was flying from the US to Jordan and transiting through Istanbul, the report said, adding Handal had been sought on an Interpol notice.
The suspect was sent to jail in Istanbul after the authorities issued a 40-day temporary custody order.
Haitian Foreign Minister Claude Joseph said on his Twitter account that he spoke with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu about the arrest, without giving further information.
