Tupancheski-Geer: Implementation of reform agenda remains Justice Ministry priority
Skopje, 9 February 2022 (MIA) – State of ongoing reforms and future steps in the field of judiciary, protection of fundamental human rights, including media freedom, and fight against corruption and organized crime were in the focus of a meeting between Justice Minister Nikola Tupancheski and EU Ambassador David Geer on Wednesday. Minister Tupancheski presented the institution’s next steps and priorities regarding the rule of law, including the drafting of the 2023-2027 Judiciary Reform Strategy, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release. “We are aware that the new enlargement methodology further highlights the importance of reforms in the rule of law in the accession process, and we are prepared to continue to make important steps on that path,” said Tupancheski. Ambassador Geer reaffirmed the progress noted in the European Commission Country Report, saying the country is on a good path towards building a professional and independent judiciary. He stressed the importance of the activities implemented in the normative-legal field, but also the need for commitment towards proper implementation of the legislation, as a guarantee for an independent and efficient judiciary, as well as a change in the people’s perception for the Macedonian judicial system, reads the press release.
