Washington, 6 November 2024 (dpa/MIA) - US broadcasters called the swing state of Michigan for Donald Trump on Wednesday, hours after the former president secured his return to the White House.
The result in Michigan - a northern state won by Trump in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020 - was called by networks CNN, NBC and CBS with 99% of the vote counted.
Trump was ahead on 49.8% of the vote, with Vice President Kamala Harris on 48.3%.
The state is part of the so-called Rust Belt, a region featuring many manufacturing plants hit hard by globalization.
Michigan also has a large population of Arab-Americans who have historically leaned Democrat but were expected to move away from Harris due to the Biden administration's failure to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza.
