Truck driving ban fully lifted, motorists advised to drive carefully

Skopje, 21 January 2024 (MIA) - A ban on heavy vehicles that was in place due to yesterday's snowfall across the country, has been fully lifted since early Sunday. However, motorists are still advised to drive carefully and adjust their speed to weather conditions.   

 

The truck driving ban has been lifted for Pletvar, Strazha and Gjavato mountain passes, along the route from the village of Rogachevo to the Jazhince border crossing, along the road from Struga to the Kjafasan border crossing, along the Mavrovo-Debar road, as well as along the road from Struga to the Deve Bair border crossing, said the Auto-Moto Association of Macedonia (AMSM) and the "Makedonija Pat" public enterprise. 

 

Wet roads and winter road conditions are reported nationwide on Sunday, with moderate traffic outside urban areas and no delays at border crossings. 

 

As of Nov. 15, 2023, winter equipment in vehicles is mandatory until Mar. 15, 2024, regardless of the weather.

 

The National Hydrometeorological Service said a breezy and cold day is ahead on Sunday, with some sunny breaks and scattered snowfall. Light to moderate wind will be blowing from the north, picking up along the Povardarie region. Lows will range from -9°C to 0°C and highs from -1°C to 5°C.

 

Mavrovi Anovi has reached the coldest temperatures of Sunday morning nationwide with -8°C, followed by Krushevo with -7°C and Berovo with -5°C. 

 

Debar and Mavrovo currently see the highest snow cover of 25 cm, followed by Popova Shapka with a snow cover of 21 cm.
